FAQs
I have never done Pilates before. How do I get started?
If you’re new to Pilates, we recommend starting with a few private lessons to learn proper alignment and form. As Joseph Pilates said, one perfect repetition is more valuable than doing 100 incorrectly. Working one-on-one with us will help you understand how Pilates applies to your body, giving you the tools for success. Our studio offers an Introductory Private Package for $240, which includes three lessons to introduce you to Pilates. At the end of these sessions, your instructor will help you decide which next steps are best for you.
What if I just want to be in a group?
We offer duet sessions for students at similar levels who are familiar with the classical repertoire. Group classes can be fun and cost-effective, but we ensure that each student receives proper attention and stays safe while using the apparatus and spring resistance. If you have questions about starting or joining a group, feel free to contact the studio for more information.
How often should I do Pilates?
Consistency is key. Practicing Pilates once a week regularly is more effective than cramming multiple sessions followed by long breaks. While Pilates can be safely practiced daily, 2-3 times a week is ideal for noticeable progress. We encourage students to integrate Pilates principles of alignment and body awareness into their everyday movements for lasting benefits.
What should I wear?
Wear workout pants and a fitted or semi-fitted top that allows your instructor to see your alignment and positioning. Avoid overly loose clothing. For hygiene purposes, we have a socks policy in the studio, though on some apparatus, you may need to remove your socks if they are too slippery.
I am pregnant. Can I do Pilates? Can I do Melt?
Yes, you can do Pilates while pregnant, but it’s important to take precautions. If you’ve been practicing Pilates before pregnancy, you can generally continue with modifications for safety. It’s essential to work with an instructor who is experienced in prenatal Pilates, as they will adjust the exercises to accommodate the changes in your body, focusing on core strength, flexibility, and posture while avoiding certain positions and movements that might be unsafe during pregnancy.
If you are new to Pilates, it’s advised not to start during pregnancy unless cleared by your doctor. Always consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program during pregnancy to ensure it’s safe for both you and your baby.
The Melt Method is safe to practice during pregnancy and can help alleviate common discomforts such as lower back and sacrum pain, which are often caused by the extra load of pregnancy. Designed to relax, stretch, and release tightness in the body, the Melt Method provides gentle relief while supporting overall comfort. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise method during pregnancy to ensure it’s right for you.
Do men do pilates?
Yes, men absolutely do Pilates! In fact, Pilates was developed by a man, Joseph Pilates, and it offers a highly effective workout for everyone, regardless of gender. Many men find Pilates beneficial for increasing core strength, flexibility, and overall body conditioning. It’s particularly helpful for improving posture, preventing injury, and enhancing athletic performance. Pilates is also excellent for targeting areas often neglected in traditional strength training, such as balance, stability, and flexibility. Whether you’re dealing with an injury or looking to boost your athletic performance, Pilates can be a valuable addition to your fitness routine.
Why aren’t there mat-only classes?
We offer small group mat sessions (4-6 participants) for those interested in learning or refining their mat work. These classes follow a workshop-style format, with each session building on the previous one and focusing on specific skills. We teach the original classical Pilates method, and while mat work is a crucial component of the practice, we prioritize using the apparatus first. This helps develop the body awareness necessary for effective mat exercises, ensuring that students have a solid foundation before progressing to mat work.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself, your socks, and your attention! We provide all the equipment you’ll need. Feel free to bring water or your own towel if you’d like, but we also supply towels, water, and even coffee or tea for a refreshing post-session pick-me-up.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for all sessions. Cancellations made within less than 24 hours will incur a charge. Please note that we do not offer refunds. If you are feeling sick or experience an emergency, contact the studio as soon as possible to reschedule.
